WHO THIS THERAPY IS FOR
This service is designed for people with Parkinson’s who:
have noticed their voice becoming quieter
struggle to be heard in conversations
feel their speech is less clear
avoid speaking in groups or social situations
want to maintain communication and confidence
If you’ve noticed these changes in yourself or a family member, speech therapy can help.
HOW PARKINSON’S CAN AFFECT SPEECH
Parkinson’s can affect the system we use to produce speech, leading to changes that can change our ability to communicate.
Changes may include:
quieter voice and being asked to repeat yourself over and over
speech is less clear and more monotone
reduced facial expression
difficulty being heard in conversation
These changes are often gradual and may not be fully recognised at first, but they can significantly impact communication and confidence.
HOW THERAPY HELPS
Therapy focuses on:
increasing vocal volume
improving clarity of speech
strengthening breath support
improving communication in everyday situations
building confidence when speaking
Specialist approaches such as LSVT Loud therapy can be particularly effective for people with Parkinson’s.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT AFTER THERAPY
With the right support, many people notice meaningful improvements in everyday communication.
You may find that you:
feel more confident speaking with others
are able to speak loud enough to be heard
don’t need to repeat yourself as often
can join in group conversations more easily
feel less effort when speaking
are better understood by family and friends
Small changes in voice and speech can make a big difference to confidence and quality of life.
Support with swallowing (dysphagia)
Parkinson’s can also affect swallowing.
Assessment and management can help improve safety and confidence with eating and drinking. If this is a concern, this can be discussed as part of your therapy plan.

Testimonials
To anyone thinking about joining LOUD for LIFE classes I would say ‘‘it’s a no brainer!’
‘‘LOUD for LIFE classes are fun, informative and useful!’’
‘‘The LOUD for LIFE classes give me a wider range of activities to do the LVST exercises’’
‘‘To begin with I was quite sceptical about the whole thing. After all I had been speaking for 60 odd years and surely I could sort this problem out myself? Nevertheless I was encouraged by my wife to give it a go and I was very glad I did. I was converted by the first session. Veronica and Tor, her colleague, were brilliant. They made the whole thing fun and the time flew by, with, I think a successful conclusion. I am not yet perfect but I am much improved and I can recognise when I am on low volume and mumble... with a bit more self work (and support is given) I can crack this. 100% recommended.’’
