LSVT LOUD for LIFE Mini Series #4 - Why Continue Practising After LSVT LOUD?

Maintaining voice after LSVT LOUD therapy for Parkinson’s

If you’ve completed the LSVT LOUD programme, you will have been advised to continue practising your voice exercises regularly.

But in everyday life, it can be difficult to keep this going consistently.

In this post, we explain why ongoing practice is so important and what can happen if voice exercises are not maintained over time.

If you’re new to LOUD for LIFE, you can read our first post explaining what the programme is here.

You can also read our previous article about who can attend LOUD for LIFE classes here.

And what happens during a LOUD for LIFE class here.

Why Is Ongoing Practice Important?

LSVT LOUD is designed to help people with Parkinson’s develop a stronger, clearer voice.

During the programme, you practise intensively and build new habits around how you use your voice.

However, like many skills, these changes need to be used regularly to be maintained.

With Parkinson’s, the system that controls voice and speech can be affected over time. This means that without continued practice, it is common for the voice to gradually become quieter or less clear again.

What Happens If You Stop Practising?

Many people notice that after completing LSVT LOUD, life becomes busy and regular practice becomes harder to maintain.

Over time, this can lead to:

  • reduced loudness

  • less clarity in speech

  • increased effort when speaking

  • reduced confidence in communication

These changes can happen gradually, which is why they are not always noticed straight away.

Why Maintenance Is Different From Therapy

It’s important to understand that continuing to practise is not about repeating therapy.

Instead, it is about maintaining the skills you have already developed.

LSVT LOUD therapy helps you build the skill.

Ongoing practice helps you keep it.

Making Practice Part of Everyday Life

One of the challenges many people face is finding a way to keep practising regularly.

Some people prefer to practise independently at home, while others find it helpful to have more structure and support.

Having regular opportunities to practise can make it easier to stay consistent and maintain confidence in your voice.

How LOUD for LIFE Can Help

LOUD for LIFE classes provide a structured way to continue practising your voice after completing LSVT LOUD, ideally alongside your daily self practise.

These sessions help people:

  • stay consistent with their voice exercises

  • maintain their loud, clear voice

  • practise communication in a supportive environment

Because classes are delivered online, participants can join from anywhere in the world.
